Interracial Couples

Mandy Tucker

I was hanging out with my friends this evening, when they mentioned they had been having some trouble with her parents. My friend is white and she is dating a black man. She is pregnant with his baby and they are very happy, but her mother and father are not happy. They have not been happy since they started dating. They wont help them out or give her a baby shower, nothing. This really gets to me because it seems like it is time to get past the interracial dating problem. There is no problem. We are all attracted to who we are and it should not matter what race, gender, etc you are. I don’t understand how it can be so acceptable for “Celebrities”, but not for regular people. Many people look at them differently, when all anyone should see is not color, but the love they have for each other. That is all that is important. They are both such good people and they share so much love, but they run into problems because they are of a different race. It is so sad that her parents cannot just look past skin color and see how in love they are and how well their daughter is taken care of. You know, you see so many interracial couples, such as black and white, white and asian, black and asian, etc. But no one seems to be to disturbed except by the Black and White couple. Who Cares? Two people are in love and happy together and that is all that should matter.

I found a pic of a lot of famous interracial couples and a clip from the movie Guess Who?, which really deals with the interracial issue and the dicrimination against it.

George Bush Makes Cameo Appearance On Deal or No Deal

Politicians as Comics

In the past couple of weeks many politicians, including President Bush, and the candidates have gone on national television shows and poked fun at themselves. They have gone on various shows such as Deal or No Deal, The Colbert Report, Saturday Night Live, and many more to show the audiences, that do not tune into much news reports, that they have some things to offer.  In order for this to work, the timing must be appropriate, for example, Bush went on Deal or No Deal when the contestant was a decorated soldier, who had done three tours in Iraq. Go Figure. The candidates for President have gone on all different shows and the further they are in the polls; the more they poke fun at themselves. Their wives have even been on a few television shows and talked about different things in their husband’s lives. Like what they like to eat and watch, to the pet names the wives have given them. I feel that this is a great way to bring politicians to the audience that is not too interested in watching CNN, etc. The prime time spots are filled with these politicians and it’s a great way to get more people involved. These spots tend to show another side to these people instead of the political side that everyone always hears and talks about. A lighter side to them.  I find it very interesting that these shows are implementing this in and it is a kind of refreshing taste to politicians. Politicians can obviously be comics too, but probably only when poking fun at themselves.
